The Merrimac Public Library Has A Telescope!

Students from Whittier Vocational Technical High School "proudly display" the three-tiered planter box that they built and delivered
to the Merrimac Public Library
on March 9, 2022.
The group of seven students and their instructor, Mike Sandlin, from the Whittier Vocational Tech High School Carpentry Class, drove into the parking lot of the Merrimac Public Library to deliver a beautifully made red cedar planter to a waiting group of supporters
from the Merrimac Garden Club,
Staff of the Merrimac Library & Friends of the Merrimac Library.
This planter is the first step to creating
a Native Pollinator Garden for the
Merrimac Public Library and is a
community effort between the
Merrimac Garden Club,
Merrimac Public Library Staff,
The Friends of the Merrimac Library and Whittier Vocational Tech High School
Carpentry Department
all coordinated by Jennifer Mansfield
This community effort began in the fall
of 2021 with the “overall goal to promote native pollinators while raising awareness about the need for more native plant habitat creation and our deep connections to living things around us.” With the first step completed, the next step will be to obtain soil & plants and bring in volunteers to help bring this endeavor to its full culmination.
There is a brass plaque on the front of the garden box that reads:
Merrimac Public Library Pollinator Garden
Created by: The Whittier Vocational
Technical H.S. and sponsored by
the Friends of the Merrimac Library
and the Merrimac Garden Club
The Planter is now in place behind the children's room with native plants now planted.
